The “family” behind “family owned and operated

Bought in 1980 by J.B. & Anna Allen, “ Meadow Mint ” was the name designated for this 23 acre plot of farmland at the corner of N. Ruggles Ferry Pike and Andrew Johnson Highway in East Knox County just outside of Knoxville, TN. Since its purchase, the farmland has been the home-place for the families of both J.B. Allen and his son, Danny. With the addition of Anna’s father, J.D. Maples, there was even 4 generations living on the farm at once for about a 20 year period until his death in 2001.

J.B. and Danny used the farmland for both work and pleasure. It was a working farm for many years producing hay, corn, and tobacco. However, it was used for more pleasure than work in the more recent years. One of J.B. and Danny’s mutual passions in life was their love of horses. They showed American Saddlebreed horses all throughout the southeastern US in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Needing a place to keep his horses, J.B. built two barns to house his show-worthy beauties. One barn was for the horses and the other was a storage area for all his farming and horse related equipment. When you drive up the driveway at Meadow Mint Farm, you will notice these two buildings still in their original location. These barns serve as the two main attractions at the center of the venue that we know today.

J.B. Allen died in December 2018, living only one day shy of his 85th birthday. His death was the result of kidney failure and he passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Following J.B.’s death, Danny, his wife Cindy, and their family realized the potential of their property and the two barns that remained on “Meadow Mint. ”

Through the years of remodeling from 2019 to 2022, Danny, Cindy, and their family designed and reshaped the look of the two barns into the elegant and charming venue that it is today. One of the main goals during the reshaping of the venue was finding ways to incorporate the original lumber from the interior of the old barn and mixing it in with the new lumber. They were successful in repurposing the old lumber in the big barn, and when you look at certain door frames and even above the signature fireplace, you will see a certain look that you will not find anywhere else. For the Allen family, it is certainly a nostalgic feature to know that the lumber from J.B.’s original horse stalls are everywhere in the main barn that once stabled his horses.

Fast forward to today, Meadow Mint Farm is the brain child of the Allen family and is run by Danny and Cindy Allen, alongside their 3 children and their spouses.

Needless to say, this truly is a family owned and operated venue and is committed to making your event the very best!
